Hey there! Iām Ryan, and Iāll be your job search guru for the duration of this Substack.
Iām pulling my career coach hat out of retirement for two reasons:
Iāve seen thousands of good people, from federal workers to political staffers, lose their jobs due to todayās politics with far less dignity thanā¦ some other folks we donāt need to name. (That was the most diplomatic sentence I could come up with.) People who have worked in service to our democracy deserve better.
Career coaching has been my side hustle for more than 15 years. At one point, even I managed a team of more than a dozen career coaches. *pats self on back* Iāve coached job seekers and career changers from a plethora of backgrounds in a wide variety of professions.
My goal is to create a go-to community for folks who have been left out of work by people with immense power.
Between former federal workers and staffers, there are tens of thousands of us who are charting a new path forward.
This is a pay-what-you-can resource, even if you canāt pay a dime.
Some folks have suggested that I put my job search expertise behind a paywall. After all, Iām in the same boat with you. But that felt at odds with my intention of being of service to folks who deserve a break.
My plan is to keep everything free for anyone who needs it. If you find value in what Iām doing, I welcome your financial support so that I can keep doing it. But youāre welcome here whether you can chip in or not.

About Me
Iāve had a fulfilling career spanning politics and entertainment for more than 20 years. It will come as a surprise to no one, however, that neither industry is known for steady employment. As a result, I needed to cultivate a side hustle.
About 15 years ago, people started asking to āpick my brainā about their career strategy because, somehow, folks started to believe that I had a knack for helping them forge a path toward long term professional success.
Since then, I have coached more than a thousand job seekers.
If you want some concrete deets: Iām an award-winning filmmaker, advisor to winning campaigns (including presidential), political analyst, on air personality, former Emmy voter, former talent manager, and avid Spice Girls Fan.

Note: Iām obviously a political creature, but I leave my partisanship at the door when it comes to supporting job seekers. Folks of all stripes are welcome as long as they are responsible members of this community.
